I'm so excited and I just can't hide it!

Some of you may know that I have been wanting to become a nurse. I have been working as a medical transcriptionist for 5-1/2 years, which has been an amazing blessing for me and my family. I have really liked it, and still do, I just have been wanting to become a nurse. When I grow up I want to work as an intensive care nurse. For now though, I can't invest what is needed for a 2-year full time program to get my RN license. I started looking into becoming a CNA (certified nurse assistant) last fall. I found out about a inpatient rehab center in the area that offers a free 5 week course to become a CNA, as opposed to the three month and almost $1000 course at the community college. So, imagine my excitement when I found out today that I got into this course! I am so excited. I will start in April (the day after getting back into town after going to my brother's wedding). This is such an amazing opportunity and gets me one step closer to my goal.
WARNING: Ranting to follow:
OK, so I have heard someone saying some really mean things about another mom who has been going back to school. She was almost saying that the person going back to school must not be a good mom, or must not be very devoted to her children because she was willing to leave them for school. Well, here is what I have to say about it: I think it is a hard thing to do but it is a wonderful example to set for your children, that education is important. When women decide to become mothers and then think of kids as an inconvenience or as intruding on their life, it bothers me A LOT! But when you are working to better yourself in order to better your family's situation, what is wrong with that? Some moms learn to cook better, some moms focus on their own spirituality, some moms learn how to budget money better, and some moms go to school. Sometimes we do all of these things to improve our situation, or we pick and choose what we need but whatever it is we do, we choose for ourselves and for our family, not to appease the masses. I have chosen to do what is best for myself and my family and we are all very excited about this. Judge me if you want, I really don't care if you waste your energy thinking poorly of me, that's fine, I'll be too busy making a better life for those I love to notice.

Thanks!! I haven't figured out what to do with the kids for that 5 weeks yet but I know it will work out. This is too good not to work out!

Congrats! Being a CNA is such a wonderful job. You will help so many people!
And to the person saying those bad things about the mom going to school: YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELF! haha sorry, couldn't help myself. Being a mom is a 24/7 job, and we tend to put ourselves last. So by going to school, or doing something we love, is NOT being selfish! Better late than never. Like you said, its setting a good example, and we will be able to help provide for the family! Good for you!

That is ambitious. I suppose after all those years of transcription, you know a lot of the terminology though. It's like its own language.
That is one of the hardest parts of doing that job, isn't it?

(Now I'm trying to remember if I said the mean sounding things. If I did, thinking back, I think I meant that there's no way that I want to go back to that right now with kids at home. It's way too hard.)
