We have been busy trying to help Tyler with his hearing and speech. He is 19 months old right now and he doesn't talk. He uses one sign every now and then and finds other ways to communicate but he doesn't have any words. He has had a lot of ear infections in his short little life. The biggest problem with them was actually that he didn't react to them. We wouldn't have any idea that he was having any problems with his ears and then would go in for something else only to find out that he had an ear infection. He had tubes put in his ears a little while back and has been doing well since then. His ear infections have stopped but his speech hasn't changed. We were getting set up to go to the Developmental Center for speech therapy and they wanted us to get his hearing screened first. We didn't expect anything to come of it because we know that he can hear us and responds to us and answers commands. Anyway we were surprised to find out that there is a chance that he has a hearing deficit in his right ear. We don't know for sure if it is an actual deficit or if it is just his tube that caused the negative result. We are going to redo the screening in a month and then will hopefully have more answers. We are thinking that it will turn out just fine but it is frustrating to not have just been done with it that day and to have to keep it in the back of our minds. We will be sure to post a result when we get one but until that all we can do is just pray that things turn out good.
